Discussion Questions:
1. Do you think the nations around the world will follow the agreement?
2. Do you think this plan will achieve the necessary progress?
3. How should we counteract global warming if this plan fails?
I don't think that all nations will follow these agreements. Wealthier countries may not think that it is fair that they have to pay and support struggling countries . In the past when things were voluntary not a lot of countries felt like they needed to do anything. Because this is voluntary, it may end up like the other plans and just be a plan. It could possibly go nowhere.

ReplyDeleteI don't think that it's likely for this plan to achieve the necessary progress because cutting emissions is only voluntary for countries, so many countries, especially developing ones, are likely to not to cut their emissions by much or at all. While it is a good starting point, I think that emission caps need to be required, or harsh punishments should be given if they aren't.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the third question, if this plan fails I think we should enforce mandatory laws. The longer we take to make plans, we have less time to deal with climate change which happening now. I believe that all countries should have emission restrictions depending on their past emissions because everyone is responsible for our planet.
ReplyDeleteOne of the barriers to resolving climate change has been the divide between the nations who cause global warming and the poorer nations which are affected by it. Wealthier countries would most likely not want to give up their economic lead, and are unlikely to cut their emissions by a substantial amount. On the other hand, poorer countries, who would be most pressured to solve this problem, don't pollute as much and don't have the power to reduce emissions from other countries.
ReplyDeleteI believe that "with great power comes great responsibility", because poorer, less-developed nations can not afford to develop new renewable energy it is the responsibility of the more developed nations to fund the development of renewable energy. However, I believe China is an exception because they are such large emitters of CO2 and pollution, China should take responsibility in limiting their country's emissions.
